Cllr David Wimble driving his beloved red 1979 MG with no valid tax or MOT.

Wimble 3

According to the vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk, Folkestone & Hythe District Cllr David Wimble, Cabinet Member for the District Economy (pictured) who represents the New Romney ward, owns a red 1979 MG Car, number plate GFJ 151V. This car presently has no valid MOT or vehicle tax, according to DVLA. This is NOT the first time this has been the case for Cllr Wimble. In July of this year we wrote about his Blue Mercedes, which now has a valid MOT and valid vehicle tax, but no valid insurance.

The Blue Mercedes though does not appear to be insured as of today, according to the Motor Insurance Database.

The Motor Insurance Database (MID) is the only central record of all insured vehicles in the UK and is updated over 10,000 times an hour. As one of the most important tools to ensure that only insured vehicles are driven on our roads, the MID is used by the police and the DVLA to enforce motor insurance law.

Concerned members of the public have written to the Shepwayvox Team alleging they have seen Cllr David Wimble  driving his red 1979 MG car GFJ 151V – pictured below, which has no valid MOT or vehicle tax, as of 9am this morning.

The MG is not exempt from vehicle tax as we understand, as it was not manufactured before 1 January 1978. At present the car still needs a valid MOT and Vehicle tax as it is NOT 40 years old, according to the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club. The reason being is because it was “first registered” in Nov 1979. Nor does it appear to be insured.

In a conversation on Facebook with fellow Cabinet Member Cllr Ian Meyers, on Sunday 18th August, Cllr Wimble asks if anybody knows of any classic car rally’s happening this morning.

It’s not know if Cllr Wimble attended the Biggin Hill Car Show, we very much hope not, especially given he had no valid vehicle tax or valid MOT, according to DVLA

According to RoadTrafficExpert.com

“Under s143 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to use (or permit to be used) a motor vehicle on a road or other public place when there is not in force in relation to the use of the vehicle such a policy of insurance in respect of third party risks as complies with the Road Traffic Act.

Section 47 (1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 states that it is an offence for anyone to drive, or allow or cause to be driven, a vehicle which requires, but does not have, a valid Ministry of Transport test certificate.

By law, it’s an offence to drive a vehicle on a public road in the UK without road tax

AS a Cabinet Member Cllr David Wimble receives an  allowance of £10,866, surely he cannot be that cash strapped that he cannot afford to pay for his red 1979 MG to be taxed and MOT’d. He can though afford for his red 1979 MG to be re-painted. Seems like Cllr David Wimble might have his priorities wrong.

When is he going to learn that he is NOT above the law.

It is in the Public Interest to publish information which can be used to prevent, detect, or prosecute crime. A crime has been detected as s143 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 is being broken by Cllr Wimble, hence our publication of this material.
