Oh what a tangled web Folkestone & Hythe District Council weave…

On the 24th Feb 2020 Cllr Lesley Whybrow (Green)  made it known via her twitter feed the following:

On Thursday the 27th Feb 2020 Folkestone & Hythe District Council announced -via their Facebook Page and Website – further changes had been made to F&HDC Cabinet with Cllr Ray Field taking up a position. On the same day  (27th Feb 2020)  a member of the public asked the Folkestone & Hythe District Council via their Facebook page the following questions:

The Council’s response to the member of the public’s questions on March 2nd 2020 was:

As we understand, other Cllrs have had emails from Cllr Monk verifying what Cllr Lesley Whybrow has said publicly via her twitter feed.

So why are Council officers contradicting what is publicly known? What is the necessity to play fast and loose with the truth when the public already know that Cllr Ray Field (Ind) has agreed to vote with the Tories?

Is it any wonder then that members of the public do not trust or even believe Folkestone & Hythe District Council, when it is so clear for all to see they are telling rather large and obvious fibs? We’ll leave you to ponder that.

  1. I am struggling with a tangled web already on top of the above posting. As you say we all know what is going on and why Cllr Lesley Whybrow and Cllr Tim Prater were ALLOWED seats on the Cabinet. Hate this cliche, but it is not rocket science. Us Wards residents are being treated shamefully yet again.

What is the point of voting in local elections if Cllrs suddenly decide to switch sides or go independent AFTER the election. I am trying to remember what happened when MPs suddenly switched Parties either before or after of the result of the referendum. Is there only a bye election if an elected member dies or resigns?

It has been possible since 2015 for constituents to recall an MP and call a by-election by petition. The qualifying criteria include cases where an MP is convicted for making false expense claims; an MP receives a custodial sentence of less than one year (longer sentences result in automatic disqualification already; an MP is suspended from sitting in the House of Commons by the Committee on Standards (see link below).

Like the previous post I struggle to comprehend why Council officials are now trying to contradict statements made by elected Councillors. If it was not true about Councillor Field agreeing to vote with Councillor Monk and his colleagues then I am sure that Councillor Monk would have made this very clear both at the time and subsequently.

One can but wonder about the competence of the Council officers in this matter. On the basis of what evidence (be it written or verbal) are they stating that Councillor Field will not vote in Cabinet with Councillor Monk and his colleagues? If they cannot provide the evidence within 7 days they should issue an amended statement.

  3. We all know Folkestone & Hythe District Council fertilise social media and their website with BS. This is just added proof to what we already know. Well done on calling them out for it.

They are obviously using the Council website to create “fake news.” That is why Shepway Vox is so important.

  5. Folkestone & Hythe District Council telling lies, surely not! This is what Shepway were good at. I had hoped this would be left behind with the name change but it seems not.

What do we have to vote for to get representatives who know the truth and are not frightened of it. Surely there must be some?
