The refugees housed at Napier Barracks have caused a lot of concern within our community. The lack of information flowing from the council more likely than not means they no very little themselves, so wish to be seen to controlling the narrative to make it appear they know something.
They are based in Dover. They are not a brilliant outfit and are underfunded so do not always do a great job through no fault of their own.
Altogether, there will be 413 refugees housed at the barracks (this might go up or down slightly as the situation remains fluid). They will be predominantly Iraqi and Iranian, who are Kurdish but as this is NOT a nationality, they must identify as Iraqi or Iranian. There will be a handful of other nationalities, according to very well-placed sources.
At present there are NOT 400 refugees at Napier Barracks. Each day between 20 -30 new refugees will arrive at the Barracks meaning the camp will be at capacity by the 7th/8th of Oct 2020.
The camp is fit for purpose as it had Gurkha soldiers occupying some of the barracks just last week. They have been accommodated on the main barrack site St John’s Moore.
The council’s very quick U turn was because they have been offered a pot of money.
We also note Cllr Tim Prater (Lib Dem), Cllr Gary Fuller (Lib Dem) and Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee spoke with Nigel Farage outside the Barracks two days after our public face broke the story. Seehere from 3m: 10s onwards
There is more we could tell you, much more, but to do so would jeopardize our sources. When that changes, we will inform you the residents of our district, as it seems the Council will not or can not.
