Once again Folkestone Indoor Bowls Club (FIBC) owned by Folkestone & Hythe District Council has managed to escape displacement from it’s current site on Cheriton Road.
The displacement of FIBC has once gain been placed on hold. As we understand they’ve been given another two year extension on it’s current lease. So this matter will raise it’s head again.
So, for the second time in four years Folkestone Bowls Club has managed to avoid being displaced to another location in the town.
As we understand, the prospective site the FIBC were due to be located to, was NOT on a bus route.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council still wish to sell the site, but we wonder if the FIBC will be able to win a hat trick of reprieves? Only time will tell.
As we said before, and so we’ll say again, selling the FIBC will put money before health. Health professionals recommend playing bowls, particularly for older people, as it provides a number of health benefits, including:
improved fitness
improved coordination and skill development
increased confidence and self-esteem
enhanced mental wellbeing
community connectedness and support.
Should Folkestone & Hythe District Council sell the land? We think not, as the elderly need to stay fit as much as young people, plus it gives them somewhere to go and keeps them off the streets. 😉
