In the 2020/21 financial year, when Covid hit, when all Folkestone & Hythe District Councillors couldn’t travel to conferences and claim subsistence and other allowances, Cllrs ended up costing the residents of the district £12,610 more than 2019/20.

Cllr Gary Fuller was the Cllr who claimed the least for the second year in a row.
Cllrs do NOT receive a wage but rather an allowance. The allowances they receive are for the following.
Basic Allowance – all Cllrs receive this
ICT Allowance – Cllrs do not have to claim this if they do not want.
Speciail responsibility Allowance – For being a Cabinet Member, A Chair of a Committee, eg Planning, Overview & Scrutiny, Audit & Governance etc
Subsistence & Travel Allowance – Cllrs can claim for food if away and also costs of travelling to meetings on official council business. Nobody claimed these allowances in 2020/21.
We’ll leave you to decide if your particular Cllr and our Cllrs overall are value for money.
