More woes for Michael Stainer
Thanks to a local Folkestone resident posting on Facebook last Saturday, we learnt that legal action had been taken to prevent people who’d bought stuff at the Grand online auction from collecting it earlier this week.
According to enquiries we then made at Canterbury County Court, and by checking the County court listings, we discovered that Michael Stainer was seeking an injunction against the appointed administrators, Begbies Traynor. They had been appointed in December 2020 after the Grand’s owners, Hallam Estates Ltd, went into administration. It can be assumed that this injunction was also intended to delay the June 22nd auction of the freehold of The Grand.
The case was before District Judge Rahman who has met Mr Stainer on previous occasions – and, yet again, dismissed the application with costs. We understand this is the third time, an application from Mr Stainer has been thrown out with costs by DJ Rahman.
I am sure he will procrastinate as long as possible but I suspect that Begbies Traynor will be much tougher than others he still owes costs to.
Not tough?? It was the ‘others’ who put Hallam into administration, bankrupted him again……. ah!! maybe you mean those paid big bucks to carry out the legal duties of administrators.
Does anyone know how to find Stainer, as I have legal proceedings i wish to begin against him.

He was spotted at The Grand today snooping around as people collected items from the auction.
I wish AK luck. Just make sure you serve him any legal documents with a witness otherwise he’ll claim the dog ate it. Bear in mind also that he’s bankrupt again….
One can but speculate as to the source of his money. It is either c/o Dorris or, he has “friends” who are hiding his cash.
What has become of the portraits of the mayors of Folkestone in the foyer of the Grand. My great grandfather was one of the portraits. He was Alderman William Salter
We believe this image has gone back to Folkestone Museum. You’ll need to check with them
Sad to see the removal of the paintings of such fine Folkestone Gentleman of yesteryear. They added to the wonderful Edwardian ambiance of this magnificent building.
All the oil paintings have taken back by the council before the items were auction. They are in save keeping.
