Child protection referrals for domestic abuse in Kent fell between 2018/19 – 2020/21

The trend for the number of child protection referrals by Kent Police, to Kent County Council Social Services, actually fell between 2018/19 – 2020/21, according to data released by the Office of National Statistics.
Although numbers fell, every referral is important, every child, man and woman matter, especially when suffering domestic abuse.
Given Kentonline compared 2019/20 to 2020/21 and screamed out the headline
does not accurately show the true facts which are available from the Office of National Statistics [ONS].
It would appear from the limited data produced by ONS, that 2019/20 was an anomaly.
Also what we don’t know is – how many of these referrals were dealt with by KCC Social Services throughout the period within the graph, given many of them were working from home due to the pandemic.

Back on point, domestic abuse whether suffered by a child, woman or man is wrong, and perpetrators need dealing with. However, the law is rather weak in this area, but there are a number of steps one can take.
