Part 42: Princes Parade – further evidence of incompetence by Council

It never rains around here it just comes pouring down, says Mark Knopfler on the song It Never Rains, from the Love Over Gold album.
And after today’s installment of a hat trick of incompetence, Folkestone & Hythe District Council once again demonstrate even more incompetence.
Report Number OS/22/08; which will go before Overview & Scrutiny Committee on Valentines day, is another demonstration of incompetence and further evidence that nobody bothers to check information, or data, before it is published to the world.
The Responsible Officer for the report is Dr Susan Priest, Chief Executive. The responsible Cabinet Member is Cllr Monk, Leader of the Council
At page 3 of the report at 2.3 it states: (it has been updated since by the Council)
Click on any one of those four links and it will take you to the image below. Now of course, residents and the public at large are not allowed to have access to the Council’s intranet, as that would allow us to read and access a lot of information; which the Council don’t want us to see, or have access to. That aside, one notes their intranet uses HTTP. That’s scary and here’s why:
HTTP does not have encryption and verification. HTTPS does. The only difference between the two protocols is that HTTPS uses TLS (SSL) to encrypt normal HTTP requests and responses, and to digitally sign those requests and responses. As a result, HTTPS is far more secure than HTTP.
Anyway, that aside, Report Number OS/22/08 at page nine also says (this has been updated by the Council)
It’s clear that nobody read this report, and if they did, nobody spotted the obvious five mistakes, they being, sending you to the Council’s unencrypted intranet, to which you do not have access.
What’s so ironic is that those who are responsible for the report, do not appear to be demonstrating leadership.
Coming back to what we published earlier today – that being Leadership missing from the slide on the Seven Principles of Public Life, presented by the Council Chief legal officer, Amandeep Khroud, it’s clear that the capabilities of the leadership of our Council is none existent.
It’s our honest opinion under the leadership of Dr Priest, and Cllr Monk, our Council is moving from one incompetent cock up to another at an ever increasing pace.
Alas they’ll be no accountability for this incompetence, and that is the problem, at both national and local government.
