The current planning permission for Princes Parade, Y17/1042/SH must be implemented by 17 July 2023, otherwise it lapses. However, the Council have made a recommendation to extend the current permission for a further three years, through the submission of a non-material amendment by the Council, to its planning department.
Report Number A/23/02 was published on the 31 May 2023, and it seeks a response from the new Council leader Cllr Jim Martin by June 8. The report makes it clear the extension of planning permission is to allow time for the new Administration to consider options and allow engagement with the community and their representatives on the future use of the site before formal decisions are made.
The decision will be taken on 8 June 2023 and the outcome will be published the same day.
We cannot find the outcome for this decision on the Council’s website.
Cllr Jim Martin (Green) (pictured) opposition to development on Princes Parade is no secret. We make it clear, the application to extend the planning permission is not about the existing scheme moving forward. The Princes Parade site, a former dump like Bigginswood (Cheriton); which is more contaminated than Princes Parade, is a “complicated site and rushing things isn’t beneficial for anyone” Cllr Martin has said.
He goes into say:
“This recommendation allows for proper conversations to be had about restoring the biodiversity and future of this much-loved community asset.”
On a final note, the Council say they published the story on the 5 June 2023. However, the Waybackmachine – an internet archive of websites and their pages – makes it very clear the story was NOT published on the Council’s website on the 5 June 2023.
Is our Council a stranger to the truth?
Well leave you to decide that.
