The events which led up to the closure of the Folkestone East Family Practice (FEFP) (pictured) was a realisation that the practice was struggling to cope with the volume of patients. The decision was taken to close the practice on the basis of patient safety and too few GP’s which placed intense pressure on the GP’s who remained. Despite advertising for over a year both in the UK and abroad FEFP did not receive a single application, according to information in the public domain.

A fine article… but also bloody scary for the future of health-care in this area – thanks to the Tories
Nothing to be scared about…………… Unless you are (delete where applicable) very old, very young, very vulnerable, very disabled, very pregnant, very scared……
Thank heavens for private health insurance. Cradle to sodding grave???

You claim that, ” it would appear no Shepway surgery has the stomach for a fight with the CCG or the NHS.” This is untrue. In 2015 I helped form a pressure group specifically to fight the damage to our profession https://www.generalpracticesurvival.co.uk/ We have had a fair amount of coverage as you will see from the links on the website and have campaigned across a wide range of issues pertinent to general practice. This is a complicated and difficult fight though and we are up against some very powerful people. We cannot win this without the support of the public.
Good on you JN… And keep kicking against the pricks….
