Free Course – Interrogating data.

Data matters. Data – Facebook data – so it is claimed may well have influenced the Brexit Vote and is currently being investigated by our own MP, Damian Collins

Damian’s data relating to his expenses matters. It allows us to analyse if he is the most or least expensive MP in the County, the Country and if we are getting value for money..

Our own Council produces over 25 different datasets such as

• data for the number of calls and visits received.

• Payments to Suppliers

• Assets Register

and much much more.

So the Shepwayvox Team will be running a data course, at Sunflower House (pictured below) – Foord Rd Folkestone on Saturday 7th July between 10-30am to 4.30pm. It is FREE.

You’ll need a laptop with wifi capability. Just turn up on the day, but if you would kindly drop us an email at shepwayvox@riseup dot net to let us know you’ll be coming, that’ll be appreciated.

The six hour course will help anyone find data, analyse it and make sense of it in an understandable way and use what they find. It would be useful to anyone who might want to become a Cllr, is a Cllr or anyone who might want to learn how to use data in their job or just improve or update their skills in analysing data and turning it into something meaningful and useful.

The course will be taught Jonathan Stoneman who has made analysing data something between a hobby and an obsession.

Jonathan Stoneman (pictured) has spent most of the last ten years specialising in data – and training others how to make the most of it; finding it, analysing it, and turning it into stories they can tell. Before that he spent 20 years in the BBC, mainly in World Service, where he specialised in Eastern European affairs, and Yugoslavia in particular. He was at various times the head of the Macedonian and Croatian language services, and ended his career as head of Training in World Service.
