Folkestone & Hythe District Council lose £2 million pounds worth of assets

Hiding assets from the public prior to an election is what the Tory led Folkestone & Hythe District Council are doing. Over £2 million pounds worth of assets have disappeared, vanished and are not on any land and building asset register where they must be.
According to the Local Government Transparency Code 2015 local authority land and building assets MUST be published annually according to para 35,36 and 37 of the Code.
Now a year for our Council runs from April 1st to March 31st. So in the year 2017/18, Folkestone & Hythe District Council purchased Highview School from Kent County Council on the 19th Dec 2017 for £750,000. Now according to the land and building assets registry, Highview does not appear on the register, yet it has been owned by Folkestone & Hythe District Council for sixteen months. There was a ‘suspicious’ fire at the disused school site recently.
However, it is not just Highview which does not appear on the land and building assets register. On the 26th Feb 2019 Folkestone & Hythe purchased Quorom for £635,000. The property sits between Newingreen and Sellindge and is in the Otterpool Park boundary
Now of course these three assets whose joint value is £2,140,000 are not on the Council’s land and building assets register where they must be. So it begs the question what other assets are missing and we wonder how robust the Council’s information management processes are.
