Planning Committee roundup from 27th August 2019

The Outline planning permission for the provision of up to 117 dwellings – Y18/1404/FH at the land adjoining Hope All Saints Garden Centre, Ashford Road, New Romney, Kent (see map below) has been approved. Cllrs on the committee voted 8 for, 1 Against (Cllr David Wimble (Ind)) and 1 Abstention (Cllr Jackie Meade (Lab)).

The site is identified as part of a broad allocation for residential development under policy CSD8 (New Romney) of the Core Strategy Local Plan (CS) and Core Strategy Review 2019 (CSR).

This application and Y18/1419/FH (image below) which was for an access road across the site of Y18/1404/FH (map above) was also approved unanimously.

Also before the Planning Committee on the 27th Aug 2019 was –  Y19/0231/FH – at 20 Encombe, Sandgate, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 3DE. Development for the erection of a three storey block of five (two-bedroom) apartments following the demolition of No. 20 Encombe with associated parking and landscaping. The applicant was Sunningdale House Developments Ltd.

This is not the first development Sunningdale House Developments Ltd have been involved in on the Sandgate Escarpment. They are presently building out the Sandgate Pavillion complex – Y15/1154/SH – where flats start at £795,000 and rise to £1,750,000. So truly not “affordable” for the vast majority of Folkestone & Hythe District residents.

Sandgate Pavillions

According to Companies House and the last set of accounts available, Sunningdale House Developments Ltd subcontracted the development work to Development House Ltd. However Sunningdale House Developments Ltd  is it appears half owned by Sunningdale Investments Ltd based in Jersey which is an offshore tax haven

The vote on Y19/0231/SH was nine Cllrs for and one abstention.

The final application to be heard – Y18/1536/FH – was for erection of a detached dwelling with rooms in the roofspace and off-street parking provision to the front elevation, to be sited within the side garden of the existing property at 2 Chislett Close, Sellindge. The application was agreed upon unanimously.
