Hate Crime is on the rise in Kent and between 2014/15 & 2018/19 it’s risen by a staggering 354%, according to figures released by the Home Office.
The most common hate crime in Kent is still a crime against race according to Kent Police. In the 21st Century we find this quite staggering as it is shows racial prejudice after so many years of public education, workplace education, hasn’t managed to eradicate or reduce this narrow minded prejudice held by a growing number. Figures for 2018/19 show there was a total of 361 hate crime prosecutions in the county, compared to 346 in 2017/18.
In 303 of the cases a conviction was secured, which equates to 83.9%.
Within Kent, Surrey and Sussex, almost nine in ten hate crime prosecutions result in convictions.
