Breaking News: False Fire Alarm crashes EKHUFT IT System

Exclusive

East Kent Hospital University Foundation Trust IT system crashed yesterday (Wednesday 10th March).

The system was down across the whole Trust for just over half the day. The contingency plan was put into place. This meant using paper rather than IT (computers).

The cause of the crash was due to a false fire alarm reporting a non-existent fire, which crashed the system.

Back in November we highlighted issues with the Fire Alarm System at the Trust. We were told all was well with the system.

Just four months later, a faulty Fire Alarm System led to frontline staff, clinicians and all other staff not being able to access the Trust’s IT system.

It’s not known if the IT crash, harmed or placed patients at elevated and/or significant risk.

We understand no data has been lost.

The Trust has been approached for a comment.
