East Kent Hospital University Foundation Trust IT system crashed yesterday (Wednesday 10th March).
The system was down across the whole Trust for just over half the day. The contingency plan was put into place. This meant using paper rather than IT (computers).
The cause of the crash was due to a false fire alarm reporting a non-existent fire, which crashed the system.
Just four months later, a faulty Fire Alarm System led to frontline staff, clinicians and all other staff not being able to access the Trust’s IT system.
It’s not known if the IT crash, harmed or placed patients at elevated and/or significant risk.
