Public Consultations in July for reserved matters application for further development on Folkestone Seafront

Updated 01/07/21 @ 07:00

FoIkestone Harbour & Seafront Development Company [the Company]  a company owned by Sir Roger Michael De Haan is bringing forward proposals for the second phase of the development on Folkestone Seafront.

The company owned by Sir Roger has – so they say – been at the forefront of projects designed to make Folkestone a more attractive location to live and work. However, not all in the community agree with Sir Roger’s direction of travel or his plans, as gentrification is pushing prices up and locals out.

The company will shortly be submitting a Reserved Matters application to Folkestone & Hythe District Council planning department for the second phase of the development. The application will cover the detailed elements of the proposal, including the design of the building and landscaping options, and will be delivered within the parameters of the outline planning permission.

A reserved matters application deals with some or all of the outstanding details of the outline application proposal, including:

• appearance – aspects of a building or place which affect the way it looks, including the exterior of the development

• means of access – covers accessibility for all routes to and within the site, as well as the way they link up to other roads and pathways outside the site

• landscaping – the improvement or protection of the amenities of the site and the area and the surrounding area, this could include planting trees or hedges as a screen

• layout – includes buildings, routes and open spaces within the development and the way they are laid out in relations to buildings and spaces outside the development

• scale – includes information on the size of the development, including the height, width and length of each proposed building.

The details of the reserved matters application must be in line with the outline approval, including any conditions attached to the permission. If your proposals have changed in any way, you may need to reapply for outline or full planning permission.

Sir Roger and his wife Lady De Haan have been keen donors to both the national Conservative Party and the local Conservative party, as is made clear on the electoral commissions donation and loans page.  They make it clear that £256,000 has been donated nationally and locally.

Donations to political parties are perfectly legitimate. This is how British Politics work, which is made clear by Bobby Friedman in Democracy Ltd, that donors often expect something in return for their money.

The Company will be holding public consultations  with the community at upcoming webinars and outdoor public exhibitions.

The webinars will take on Wednesday 21 July and Wednesday 28July, 6pm to 7pm

The public exhibition will be held at the Folkestone Harbour Station on the following dates:

Friday 23rd July at 4pm – 8pm
Saturday 24th July at 10am — 3pm

We understand Cllrs have been invited to a private briefing of the plans on Thursday 22nd July between 5pm and 7pm at the Folkestone Harbour Station.
