A 28p difference on a single litre of fuel. That’s what separates the cheapest and most expensive filling stations in Kent and Medway, according to government data analysed by Shepway Vox.
The figures, extracted from the Government’s Fuel Finder scheme on 7 October 2026, reveal that motorists could pay £14 more to fill a 50-litre tank, depending on where they stop.
Our analysis covers 202 filling stations, including 197 reported prices for standard unleaded petrol and 200 for diesel.
Unleaded petrol ranged from 167.9p to 195.9p a litre. Diesel ranged from 189.9p to 217.9p.
And now motorists can see those differences for themselves.

Shepway Vox has mapped the reported prices across Kent and Medway, allowing readers to compare individual forecourts.
Map: Kent & Medway Petrol and Diesel Prices – 7 October 2026 | Shepway Vox
The map uses six layers covering standard petrol and diesel. Green markers identify cheaper filling stations, amber marks middle-range prices and red identifies the most expensive.
Readers can switch layers on and off, examine individual stations and compare prices.
These are prices reported in the 7 October dataset, not live prices. Some reports may be older, and pump prices can change.
Where petrol was cheapest
Four Thanet-area filling stations shared the lowest reported unleaded price of 167.9p a litre:
Tesco Broadstairs Extra
Pegwellbay Service Station, Ramsgate
Tesco Ramsgate Manston
Sainsbury’s Thanet, Ramsgate
Oak Motors in Faversham followed at 169.9p.
For diesel, Pegwellbay Service Station and Doddington Service Station near Sittingbourne shared the lowest recorded price of 189.9p a litre.
The results show that independent retailers can compete directly with major supermarkets. A familiar brand does not necessarily mean the cheapest fuel.
Where motorists paid most
At the other extreme, Medway East and Medway West motorway services recorded 195.9p for petrol and 217.9p for diesel.
Clacket Lane services recorded 189.9p for petrol and 215.9p for diesel.
Closer to Folkestone and Hythe, Shell Channel Gateway at Saltwood recorded 189.9p for petrol and 214.9p for diesel.
That places its reported diesel price just 3p below the highest identified in the dataset.
Motorway and major-route convenience can come at a substantial premium.
However, these figures alone cannot establish why individual operators charge more.
Twenty-eight pence that adds up
A 28p difference might sound modest when expressed per litre.
Across a 50-litre tank, however, it becomes £14. For someone buying 50 litres every week, that difference would amount to £728 over a year, assuming the same price gap persisted.
For households already struggling with transport, food and energy bills, that is not insignificant.
The Government’s Fuel Finder scheme gives motorists an opportunity to compare pump prices rather than purchase fuel without knowing what competitors are charging.
Our map makes those differences visible across Kent and Medway.
The figures do not prove profiteering or price-fixing. But they do reveal just how much the price of an everyday necessity can vary across the same county.
And they leave motorists with one straightforward question:
Why pay more for the same fuel when a cheaper filling station might be just down the road?
