Hythe Imperial: Come for the Spa, Stay for the Housing Estate
This is a satirical take on planning application 26/1290/FH. All conversations and scenarios are fictional.
There are, broadly speaking, three ways of improving a golf course.
You can improve the greens.
You can improve the clubhouse.
Or you can build 291 houses on part of it and call the whole thing an enhancement.

Having looked through the planning documents, I can understand Historic England’s concerns about the impact on the setting of the Royal Military Canal. However, the housing is clearly intended to help finance the wider hotel and leisure improvements, much as residential development was intended to support Princes Parade. The question is whether all 291 homes are genuinely necessary for the investment to be viable. I couldn’t identify a financial justification demonstrating that this number is essential. Rather than dismissing the residential element outright, as Historic England recommends, surely the sensible approach is to establish how many homes are actually needed to deliver the promised benefits while minimising the impact on the historic landscape?
No homes are needed it’s just pure greed on the part of Healey ,allow them this and the next thing there’ll be 300+ going up on Princess Parade
Yet more weekend retreats/holiday homes/AirBnBs for rich Londoners that won’t solve any housing shortage but merely line pockets and tick quota boxes.
