The number of known million pound properties in Shepway has accelerated considerably in the last few years.  The first known million pound property in Shepway – Lympne Castle – was registered on the Jan 4th 2002 according to Land Registry data; and cost just over the million mark. The latest one is No 19, Castle Hill Avenue which was sold for £1.2 million and is owned by Oportunitas Ltd, a company solely owned by Shepway District Council.

The two rather large spikes in the graph above are commercial properties.

Million pound properties have markedly increased from 2013 in Shepway. The Land Registry data says there are currently 59 properties worth over a million pounds. However, that is not the full story. When properties are lodged with the Land Registry, the price can be withheld, so undoubtedly there’ll be more than 59 properties across Shepway which have cost a million or more.

The number of houses sold for at least £1 million rose by 12% in the first half of 2016 compared with the previous year across the UK. Less than half a million homes in the UK were valued at £1m-plus, (2016) but a study by high street lender Santander claims this number will rise to more than 1.6m in the next 15 years. And guess what people, some of them will be here in Shepway, keeping them very much out of the range of being affordable for the majority of residents in Shepway.
