Are They Worth £9.2 Million?

In Kent – including Medway, there were 715 elected representatives who received  expenses and allowances in the financial year 2016/17.

Kent has 559 elected representatives who sit on all 12 Councils, Ashford, Canterbury, Dartford, Dover, Gravesham, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Shepway, Swale, Thanet, Tonbridge & Malling and Tunbridge Wells. The total expenses & allowances paid to all these elected Cllrs for 16/17 was £4.1 million.

On Kent County Council the number was 84, but has been reduced to 81 due to boundary changes. KCC Cllrs collected £1.75 million.

Medway Council had 55 members  who claimed £735,000 in expenses and allowances.

Our 17 Kent MP’s claimed, according to IPSA, £2.6 million

All together these elected representatives have cost us £9.2 million.

  1. No.

  2. NO….
And counciliars shouldn’t be able to set their own allowances..
And expenses should be rigorously scrutinised
And “expense anomalies” reported directly to the Police to take action and not dealt with “in-house”

  3. The vast majority no. Martin Whybrow is an exception at KCC, but then I do vote Green

  4. Thanet Councillors are certainly not worth the money they receive.

That is an average of £12,867 expenses and allowances per person – WOW!

In answer to your question – no.
