Cllr Ian Meyers Steps Down From Cabinet

Meyers

Cllr David Monk (Con), Leader of Folkestone & Hythe District Council has asked Cllr Ian Meyers (UKIP) – Romney Marsh Ward to step down from the Cabinet. No explanation has been given by Cllr Monk, or Meyers. It is NOT due to health reasons or family reasons, regardless of what the Council might say in the future. This means Meyers will lose his special responsibility allowance of £10,866.

As far as we are aware other Cabinet members have not been made aware of Cllr Meyers stepping down.

Until last Thursday, Meyers was described as – Cabinet Member for Digital Transformation and Customer Service

However, as of today, 3rd Feb 2020, Meyers is missing from the Cabinet member list

And it’s clear from his Cllr webpage he is no longer a Cabinet Member

As we understand Meyers will be stepping down as a Cllr in the near future forcing a potential district by-election in Dymchurch.

Our sources in Dymchurch make us aware that Andy Weatherhead has been in attendance at a number of Parish meetings. And it’s known that on the 6th Jan at a Dymchurch Parish Council meeting Cllr Meyers was overheard by several persons as saying:

  • I can bring Monk down.

What this was with reference to, is not yet clear.

Cllr Meyers was elected as a UKIP candidate with 851 votes on the 2nd May 2019. He was previously elected in May 2015 with 1,375 votes and became the leader of the UKIP party.

Keep digging. The knives are being unsheathed. When things start to go wrong people look to protect their own backs and form alliances with potential supporters.
