Folkestone & Hythe District Council have more than £204,000 in unpaid HGV PCNs, equivalent to ten Council jobs

HGV PCN Numbers Apr 2017 - March 2020 (2)

Between April 2017 and March 2020, Folkestone & Hythe District Council have failed to collect £204,074 in unpaid Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) for HGV vehicles parked unlawfully across our district, according to data released by the Council.

In the three financial years the Council issued 6,055 PCNs and ought to have had an income of £289,265. However, 71% of all HGV PCNs are outstanding.

Add in the fact the Council have written off £40,190 in the three financial years between Apr 2017 and Mar 2020, the amount of income they’ve received is  £45,001, or just 16.5%.

To give these figures meaning they could pay for nearly ten  jobs, or one job for ten years, as the Council have collected on less than 8 out of 10 PCNs issued.

At a time when the Council are claiming they’ll be a near £3 million pound overspend in 2020/21, due to expenditure caused by the covid-19 pandemic, the failure to collect the outstanding HGV PCN money is telling, as every little helps.

The Cabinet member responsible for transport is Cllr David Godfrey (Con),  who represent the North Downs East Ward. He received £16,112 in allowances in 2019/20. The council officer responsible is corporate director, Andy Blaszkowicz, Director of Housing & Operations, whose annual salary is approx £107,000.

We ask them both when the collection rate from HGVs who park unlawfully across our district will improve? At present it would appear the recovery rate and the Cllr & Officer charged with that responsibility are not fit for purpose.

  1. The chief executive’s 40 grand wage increase should have been used to employee extra debt collectors to go abroad to collect the fines like they do if we dont pay our fines!! Why should people using and abusing our roads get away with it!!?

  2. Provide proper HGV facilities and you won’t need to employ people to penalise the poor buggers trying to do theirs ffs!

No wonder our great country is shit with moron supporting knobs running things!

53% of our annual income ends up in sodding tax for it only to spent on councillors wage rises and poor management. So find a better way or get rid of stupid inept dickheads at the top!
