Breaking News: Debenhams & Civic Centre to be used in Covid-19 Vaccination Programme rollout.

Exclusive: Updated 17:30  07/01/21

The Shepway Vox Team have learnt the Civic Centre and the former Debenhams building are to be used in the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme rollout.

As we understand premises on the Marsh are being sought to rollout the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme, there.

The Covid-19 Vaccine program begun in the Folkestone & Hythe District in Mid Dec. We announced on Dec 23rd the rollout of the vaccination will begin week commencing 11 Jan. This has been confirmed by the Kent & Medway CCG on their website

Oaklands Surgery in Hythe began the role out last week to patients in Hythe & Hawkinge. These patients have received the Pzifer BioNTech vaccine. Oaklands has been providing vaccinations for

  • Sun Lane Surgery,

  • White House Surgery,

  • Oaklands Health Centre,

  • Hawkinge and Elham Surgery,

  • The Folkestone Surgery,

  • Folkestone Health Centre,

  • New Lyminge Surgery.

Broadly, vaccines are being given to the most vulnerable first, as set out in a list of nine high-priority groups, covering about a quarter of the UK population.

One of the nine groups are those over 80. In our district as of 1st Dec 2020, there were 7,689 patients over 80 registered at GPs in the district.

Folkestone GP Surgeries overseen by Channel Health Alliance will start Covid vaccinations on the 11th January 2021. The surgeries to be used are:

  • The New Surgery,

  • Guildhall Street Surgery,

  • Sandgate Road Surgery

  • Manor Clinic.

These surgeries will use the Civic Centre, but as we said on the 23rd Dec, we do not expect the Civic Centre to be ready by then. We reckon the date will be later in the month.

These location will not offer a drop-in vaccination service. All vaccinations will be  arranged in advance through invitation/letter based on the national priority groups. If you fall into one of the priority groups please wait to be contacted for when you can get the vaccine.

Plans are being worked up to set up mass vaccination sites across the County, each offering up to 3,000 vaccinations a day. Announcements will follow as soon as the locations are confirmed.

  1. Good morning,
I own the tin tabernacle ( previous church) in Hythe ,
It is standing empty at the moment if it can be of any help to the vaccine rollout,
It has a DDA w/c plus regular w/c , kitchen and heating, good ventilation, tables and chairs,
    Please advise,
    Kind regards
    Peter Jarvis

  2. Thanks for the info

  3. There are village/church halls all over the Romney Marsh-are all of them unsuitable?!

    • Exactly right there.. Time is of the essence as I’m aware that there are two cases of the virus in a Care Home in my area on the Marsh and surely they’re not going to make vulnerable old people travel to Folkestone when if you look at the Kent Covid map there’s shedloads of vaccine centres all over the place except the Marsh

Questions of ‘why the Marsh was missed out’ can be left to later but right now this situation needs to be sorted.

  4. @Peter Jarvis

Have you approached the GP surgeries in Hythe? They may need a new space to deliver vaccinations. Surely better than Hythe folk having to travel to Folkestone.

  5. What about old Aldi’s in Hythe, lying empty and with carpark

  6. “Nadhim Zahawi, vaccine deployment minister, said: “The NHS is pulling out all the stops to vaccinate those most at risk as quickly as possible, with over 1,000 vaccination sites live across the UK by the end of the week to provide easy access to everyone, regardless of where they live.”

After checking Zahawis’ statement to the BBC on the 8th Jan 2020 against https://www.kentandmedwayccg.nhs.uk/your-health/coronavirus/covid19vaccine I don’t think his statement stacks up in regards to the elderly on Romney Marsh.
