Princes Parade: £50,000 Planning Consultancy Support Contract

On the 24th March Folkestone & Hythe District Council placed an advert for another contract for Princes Parade. The expression of interest for this contract ends today 07/04/21.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council wishes to appoint a suitable supplier who can offer planning consultancy support for the Princes Parade Development.

The contract, valued at £50,000, is anticipated to start on the 26th April and run for a period of sixteen months to Sept 2022.

Just prior to the Easter holiday long weekend, both diggers and equipment to to undertake borehole samples turned up on the site.

Over the coming weeks the Council have announced that local residents should be prepared for the possibility of noise while exploratory work continues.

Due to the nature of the site, having been a former landfill site odour from the deposited materials are also a distinct possibility for short periods during the first week.

Planning permission has already been granted to build a new leisure centre, 150 homes, a hotel and shops along Princes Parade, but since then the scheme has been subject to many protests and even a failed judicial review to stop it going ahead.

  1. What will the boreholes reveal I wonder? This site was used as a landfill and as a dump for dredged material from the canal during the early 1980s.

I guess that there will be a lot of household waste, rubble and silt. Hardly the sort of ground you would want to live above.

  2. The only pre-existing borehole record can be found here:

This is not in the project area, but indicates the presence of clay and water at just 9 feet.
