The Shepwayvox Team have been contacted by a number of readers about an incident which took place aboard the High Speed train on Valentine’s day involving the leader of Folkestone & Hythe District Council elected Leader Cllr David Drury Monk.
Prior to stepping aboard the 13:12 from St Pancras to Ashford International, Cllr David Monk purchased some food for the 38 minute journey back to Ashford. There he would alight and wait for the connecting train at 14:02 to whisk him back to Folkestone.
In the 38 minute interval between London & Ashford, Cllr Monk (pictured) was peckish so tucked into some of the food he had purchased prior to boarding the train at St Pancras. All of this was witnessed by a number of passengers on board. Now as he prepared to alight from the train at Ashford, a passenger challenged Cllr Monk about the rubbish he had left on the table and asked him if he was going to put it in the bin provided.
Cllr Monk’s response was “there are people paid to clear up the rubbish on trains” and that it “creates gainful employment”. The passenger replied to Cllr Monk’s by saying “You are just a slob.”
In Sept 2018 Cllr Monk rose in the Chamber and preached to all that appearance matters. However it would appear these issues he raises do NOT apply to him.
If we all took Cllr Monk‘s attitude of just leaving our rubbish lying around where we had a picinic, a barbecue across our beautiful district, there would be uproar. Facebook, would be awash with comments, letters no doubt written to the paper and a call for more expensive compactor bins and perhaps even a campaign entitled ‘Pick Me Up Before You Go, Go‘.
Such behaviour by Cllr Monk demonstrates a complete lack of respect for those around him and for the environment. He and his Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Stuart Peall (pictured) preach to us about binning our rubbish, but then the Leader of Folkestone & Hythe District Council, Cll Monk, fails to practice what he and his Council preach. It is then people a case of do as I say and not as I do; which in short, demonstrates what a hypocrite Cllr Monk is, in our personal opinion.
The “…it creates work for people…” is a tired excuse trotted out by basic people who lack self-awareness and consideration for others. It is hard to believe he is the Leader of a Council.

… like creating work for insolvency practitioners thanks to his entrepreneurial skills?? Just like his chum slippery Stainer!!!
Oh cut poor old “Selwyn Froggitt” some slack…
He was probably rushing off to his next meal and trying to remember to claim the food on expenses…

Who likes him? The number of complaints I read.
