Nepal Disaster: Folkestone & Hythe Sends Messages of Hope and Comfort to Those Affected

The terrible events unfolding in Nepal and the wider Himalayan region will feel a very long way from Kent. But for many families across Folkestone & Hythe and the county, they’ll feel painfully close to home.

Kent has a large and valued Nepalese community, with particularly strong links through generations of Gurkha families who’ve made their lives here. Many will have relatives, friends and loved ones in Nepal, or connections to communities affected by this disaster.

At times like this, politics, borders and nationality simply don’t matter.

People have lost loved ones. Others will be desperately waiting for news of family and friends. Communities have been devastated, while rescue workers and ordinary people are doing everything they can to help those caught up in the tragedy.

For those of us thousands of miles away, there may be little we can practically do at this moment. But we can stand alongside those who are grieving, frightened or waiting anxiously for news.

The Shepway Vox Team sends its heartfelt condolences to every family that has lost someone.

We also send messages of hope and comfort to all those affected, regardless of nationality — to the injured, the displaced, those searching for loved ones and those waiting desperately for news.

Our thoughts are particularly with members of the Nepalese community here in Folkestone & Hythe and across Kent who may have family and friends caught up in what has happened.

We hope those still missing are found safely.

We wish strength to the rescue workers, emergency services and communities helping one another through what will undoubtedly be incredibly difficult days ahead.

And to our Nepalese neighbours here in Kent: our thoughts are with you, your families and your homeland.
