Kent and Medway Fuel Prices Exposed: 29p a Litre Difference Between Cheapest and Most Expensive Pumps

Updated 08/10/26 @12:57

A litre of petrol for 166.9p in one part of Kent. A reported price of 195.9p at a motorway service area. That’s a difference of 29p a litre — or £14.50 on a 50-litre tank.

The latest figures published by FuelMap on 8 October 2026 reveal substantial differences in what motorists are being asked to pay for standard petrol and diesel across Kent and Medway.

FuelMap uses the Government’s Fuel Finder data, refreshing its feed throughout the day and allowing drivers to compare forecourts before filling up.

Its Kent county comparison covers 198 active non-motorway filling stations across 38 towns, including Medway.

Find the cheapest petrol and diesel near you

Unlike a fixed spreadsheet, FuelMap updates as newer forecourt reports become available. Readers can select their fuel type, explore individual stations and compare prices.

Cheapest and most expensive

Reported prices available on 8 October 2026

The cheapest petrol was reported in Ramsgate, while Ramsgate and Sittingbourne shared the lowest diesel price.

At the other extreme, FuelMap’s Gillingham individual-station listing included BP’s Medway motorway service area at 195.9p for petrol and 217.9p for diesel.

These highest figures are from an individual listing that includes motorway services, not FuelMap’s motorway-excluded county comparison. They should not be treated as confirmed current county-wide maxima.

Motorway prices are only part of the story

Remove motorway services and substantial geographical differences remain.

FuelMap recorded an average petrol price of 170.9p in Broadstairs, compared with 180.9p in Snodland.

That’s 10p per litre, or £5 on a 50-litre tank.

For diesel, Broadstairs averaged 195.4p, compared with 204.9p in Edenbridge — a difference of 9.5p per litre.

These are town averages, not individual filling-station prices.

Closer to home

In Folkestone, FuelMap recorded petrol prices between 177.7p and 181.9p, with diesel between 198.9p and 202.9p.

Gulf on Canterbury Road had the lowest listed petrol price, while Sainsbury’s at Park Farm offered the cheapest recorded diesel.

FuelMap also warns when individual stations have not reported prices for more than seven days. A recently refreshed webpage does not mean every forecourt price has been updated that day.

The price of convenience

The figures do not prove profiteering or price-fixing. Motorway operating costs, competition, location and commercial decisions can influence prices.

But for households already struggling with everyday costs, price differences of several pence per litre soon add up.

And with more fuel-price information becoming publicly accessible, motorists can increasingly challenge those differences simply by taking their business elsewhere.

Why pay substantially more for the same fuel when the prices are now there for everyone to see?

  1. How can Tesco Ramsgate petrol be 167.9 when Tesco Park Farm Ashford is 179.9? Answer it’s all about ripping the motorist off and boosting their profits , if not they’ll not reach their annual £4 billion profit margin which no doubt will be higher this year .

  2. The info has been added by map providers, eg Waze; put petrol in search and it adds that layer.
